For the third and final year in a row, Anna Paradiso Laurin and Dan Laurin are returning with a musical soiree at Drottningholm. The sparkling finale offers 18th and 19th century music, giving the audience the opportunity to familiarise themselves with great composers and cultural personalities who are completely forgotten today. The concert aims to recreate the relaxed and creative atmosphere of a soiree. So, how would such an evening sound like today? The hosts gather some of their friends for the Musical Pastime Grand Finale 2024, which also includes music by contemporary composers.

Anna and Dan’s artistic project concerning the salon as a ‘creative space’ has shown that the music composed for the salons, sometimes by, but mostly for women, has been almost completely ignored by later generations of musicians and musicologists. However, it was in the salons that a substantial part of musical development in Sweden - and throughout Europe - took place: Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert were all active salon visitors, and it was for the salons that they wrote their lieder and sonatas.

A salon hostess was the director of her own 'show', with various artistic performances, intellectual discussions and entertainment. Here the music was meant to work in a very different way to public concerts today: the music was part of a larger 'performance'.

The doors are open, find your seat, enjoy - and don't forget to mingle with us afterwards!
