Drottningholms Slottsteater is since 2007 a national foundation with access to government funding. We organize opera performances, concerts, guided tours as well as activities for children and young adults. Our mission is to make our common cultural heritage, the unique 18th century theatre, easily accessible for more guests through an artistically innovative program with quality and attractiveness on an international level.
The theatre from 1766 is the only in existence anywhere in the world with a fully functional hand driven machinery and with preserved sets from theatre's youth. The theatre is part of Sweden's first world heritage site, The Royal Domain of Drottningholm.
Our main season is during the summer months but we stay busy around the year with preparations for upcoming events, creations of costumes and sets as well as preservation and conservation of the building. We are a handful of staff working around the year but our staff can reach 250 people during our main season.
